Video Title / Caption: Virginia Bucket List Hike for Kids: The Boardwalk at Dodd Park 📍Chester, VA Officially known as R. Garland Dodd Park at Point of Rocks, Dodd Park covers 176 acres. It’s located on the banks of of the Appomattox River & has a bunch of different spaces for families to explore. The upper area has athletic fields, picnic areas, a large playground area, swings & exercise equipment. The lower area has a play space with great shade! This *highlight* of this park is the floating boardwalk! It goes over tidal marsh & has spectacular views 😍🍂 It takes ~10-15 minutes to walk from the parking lot directly to the boardwalk. If you’re looking for a longer hike, there are 2.7 miles of trails! •••••• Things to Know 💥 This park is located in Chester, near Hopewell. 💥It is free to visit. 💥There are bathrooms by the athletic fields & a porta potty by the lower play area. 💥 A parking lot is in front of the upper playground. 💥The first playground is huge! There are 2 play structures - one for big kids & one for littles. 💥 It has mostly sun, but there are surrounding trees for some shade. 💥The critter trail down to the lower play space has shade & it’s paved. We loved this - there are “bugs” on the pavement. 💥The lower play area has full shade in summer. 💥Parts of this park are stroller friendly & some are not. The majority of the area around the 2 play spaces are stroller friendly. 💥An all terrain stroller works best on the trails. 💥There are stairs to get to the boardwalk. 💥The floating boardwalk goes through the marsh. It does not have railings, so this is a 1:1 parent/child activity for us. 💥If there’s been a lot of rain portions of the boardwalk can flood. 💥It took us about an hour to walk from the playground to the boardwalk & back.
